The Rx Assistance program was first run by the county and RPMH, later to be taken on solely by RPMH. The location was moved from the county courthouse to its current location on RPMH campus. Prior to Medicare Part D existence the program assisted over 400 residents. Today the program currently serves approximately 55 clients that either live locally in Nolan County or have services by the local physicians. That is a big difference in the number of clients, but the program has already acquired over$200,000 in retail value of medications in the last 12 months for these clients.
The program can assist clients over the age of 6 that are uninsured. Clients with Medicare can also be assisted once they have met their medication deductible requirements. Medications are normally long term, and it usually takes around 30 days for the process to complete and medications to be delivered by the pharmaceutical companies. These medications are sent to the physician’s office, then picked up by the Rx program, logged in and delivered to a local pharmacy. The pharmacy will then dispense the medications to the patient. Most medications require a$4.00 co-pay which is dependent on the client’s finances.
